First off my name is Cole Schlitzer and I am the 2011 Dubuque County Hixson. I grew up on a 425 acre dairy farm. Milked about 100 dairy holstein cows twice a day. Played football, basketball, baseball, and tennis in high school and loved it. Big sports fanatic and glad I'm a Cyclone!
Everyone at one point in time has a “best” moment, in which they were their very best. For me this “best” moment was when I played high school football. Every time I would step onto that field on a Friday night, I would love every minute of it. The feeling is great, knowing that everyone came to watch your team. Boy will I miss those days. Now that I am in college I can translate that feeling of preparation and accomplishment into my first college semester.
Since I was young I have always had the love for sports. I would always be the kid that had to win everything. I’ve been very competitive with everything that I do and work hard doing so. My favorite sport to play was and will always be football. Any chance that I would get I would be tossing the football around with friends. I played football in high school all four years. Putting in countless hours of practice and working out, so come game day I was ready.
Football season was the best. The positions that I played were wide receiver, corner-back, and punted. One of my best putting games was vs Cedar Rapids Xavier. I had one punt that went for 63 yards. I ended up putting that game ten times that game! Average 34.5 yards. The best receiving game for me was vs Decorah. That is when I had my first touchdown catch of my high school career. I had nine catches. Feels good to be at your best on the field and knowing all the hard work you put into it.
Now that I am in college I am ready to take all of the challenges head on. Football and all the sports I have played in high school will help me with some of these challenges. Being able to be a hard worker in college is key to have, because it makes you focus on school. With being involved with a team you have to work hard everyday in practice in order to be good at it. This goes hand and hand with school the harder you work the more successful you will be.
